Accutrons, old and new

Submitted by Lance666 on March 14, 2011 - 6:05am

Two questions:

Q1 -- Is there a new (2010) Limited Edition Accutron Spaceview? If so, is a $4000 price for it making any sense to anyone?

Q2 -- Is this a legitimate Accutron Spaceview:

I ask because I had read that the Spaceview had no dial with the hour indicators painted under the crystal. This one offered seems to have a dial that is cut away to allow viewing.

Bulova certainly did release a anniversary model that cost $4k (in fact they are still selling them now) and if I had the money I'd spend it on buying 5 real ones from the 60s instead!!

I saw this a few days ago also and wondered...surely not a real one..but Bulova always surprises me!

There is a limited '50 Year Anniversary' edition Spaceview based on the original.

To answer you first question,  $4000 is a legitimate price for the 50 year Anniversary Spaceview if you are willing to pay that much. I'm not.

The one shown on ebay is not a legitimate Spaceview, they just cut the center out of the dial. There is a model 218 a little like that.

The $4000.00 price tag is for the new engineering to retool and  make it compatable with the 1.55 volt batteries, and the limited edition number of only 1000 to be made.

I wonder if a guy could buy one of these new coil packs to fit into a older version :)

You get a lovely presentation box for all that coin as well! :-)

I've had no problem with my old Accutrons running on the 1.55 volt batteries. That presentation box is nice but I guess I'd rather spend my hard earned dollars on vintage.
