Anyone know what year my code is please?

Submitted by thenice on July 26, 2014 - 8:58am

Hiya, I'm new here and from London UK. I just bought my first Bulova (always wanted one!) and I can't for the life of me find out it's year from the code! It's H588921, stamped on the back. I can't see a way of adding a photo here, but any help will be very much appreciated. Thanks all, and best wishes Dave.

Hi Thenice. Sounds like you have one made after 1948. You can't use the serial number to date those. Look for a letter and a number stamped on the back of the case, usually under the Bulova name stamp. Examples: "M6", "N7", etc.

If the case back says "watertite", the date code may be on the inside, and may consist of the last two numbers of the year, e.g. "53" for 1953.

Bob.

Thanks Bob, It doesn't say that on the back, but it has M5 stamped on the back. Does this make ageing it easier? Not thinking of selling it, just wanted to know out of old fashioned curiosity! Cheers, Dave.

Hi David - I added the fourth picture, the one showing the date code. M5 is 1965. It's a nice looking watch.

Great, thanks a lot Geoff! Sadly the dial looks a bit grim though, think it's worth getting sorted, or maybe might cost too much? Cheers, Dave.

The case looks to be the one used in the early fifties for the Ruxton, then it had a change of name in the late fifties to the Broker.

Not found anything yet.

Unknown.
