I don't think this is an Arnold but what else? Stamford and Alexander both very similar but without the engraved case.
1944, 15 jewel 10AK, Stainless back. Any thoughts anyone?
Here is one of the movment! Interesting to note that the 1944 triangle overstamps a 1936 square. Maybe just an error. I'll try to get a better picture.
Philip & Co,
The first noted mention of the "Arnold," is in the BB crystal catalog, 1942... First known mention of the Alexander," in the 1947 SUC catalog... BOTH take the same crystals...
GS
SUC
BB
PERFIT
CMT346-30
RMU147-22
CMT2398 203
MB239/6 204
An "Aviator" (second one, from the early 40s) and the "Stamford" take the following crystals:
CMT293
MU103-15, RMU98
CMT2205 198
HMB220/3 198
The "198" width "Broadcaster" is clearly marked on (later, molded style) G-S crystal packages... I have yet to see an illustration+ of the '40s Broadcaster, nor the Alexander model... with the Tonneau bezel openings/dials/and I presume, cases?
SURE that movement is a '44 vintage?? Seems more like a '45+ release???
Best :-) Scott

Clearly not an Arnold. Having both side by side my vote would have be for the Stamford but mine's not engraved and they were advertised as having a 17 J engine.
Then I checked the Stamford I have, dated 1944-45 with a 15J 10BC engine.
So now, my Arnold, case and movement date 1951 and it's also got the 15J 10BC movement
I'd love to add a picture of them side by side for you but I haven't figured out how to do that yet.

Hey Shawn,
While I'm somewhat pexplexed about the mention of BOTH a '42 "Arnold" (along with a like crystaled, post WWII) and a 1946- 51 version (?!) this watch is either an "Alexander," or maybe even some other model (not mentioned in a half dozen+ 40s crystal catalogs?) but definitely isn't the same size as either the Stamford, or the Aviator (no. 2?) as I spelled out above, with most known crystal specs...
I have been mistaken on one or two so far (of 60- 80?) but my bet is that this is most likely, the Alex???
SEE the 15 Jewel, 10AK (Circa 1944?) hereafter:
