Beau Brummell M0

Submitted by DD on December 10, 2011 - 1:42pm

Hi everyone! New to this awesome site! I recently aquired an incredible Bulova vintage time piece but am having some difficulties in getting any information about it. What I do know  from reviewing the ad posters on this site (page 9 first 1960's ad) that it is a Beau Brummell from 1960. I am pretty good with the internet and cannot find this watch selling or reviewing anywhere. Could anyone help me with finding out more about my watch.  I really appreciate any help.

Thanks,  DD

The info you found through our data base is probably the only info you'll find regarding this watch DD. As to value, it's subjective at best and that would be what "someone" is willing to pay.

I appreciate the reply. I do want to say that I didn't ask what it is worth! I know what it is worth to me, which is sentimental value and I am not looking to sell this watch under any conditions. This was my grandfather's watch who died in 1974. He died the week that I was born, so as you can see this watch means the world to me. This watch sat in my grandma's sock drawer for almost 40 years and was just recently given to me. I wasn't aware at first that I shouldn't wind it right away and that I should take it to a watch repair person and so I wound it up right when I got it. It started running and hasn't stopped since. I just recently took it in to have it serviced. The watch guy didn't know anything about my watch and suggested that I check out this website. At this point I am a big Bulova fan and am looking to add to my collection.

Dubs.... your in big trouble.   Your story exactly matches mine.  Approximately one year and a month ago I didn't have one Bulova to my name.

Needless to say if you look at Plainsmen's watches.... I can't say that anymore.  Haha... it's been an interesting year and man... I'm hooked way worse than my Grandpas 1940 Bulova Ranger... hah.

Welcome man... and enjoy!

Thanks for the welcome all. Really excited! we have an antique mall on the outskirts of town and a dealer has 2 displays of vintage watches. I hear that he has a couple of Bulova's including some 214 Accutron's. Time to roll up my sleeves and start doing some research.

Mybulova_admin, just wanted to let you know that http://www.mybulova.com/watches/1960-beau-brummell-tw-3377 was my add to the site. The thing is that I am still interested in finding out which movement is in the case. I don't have time to run over to our towns watch repair man so I guess I wait a little bit unless anyone here might know. Thanks all.

The movement could be a 10BZAC, or a 10 BPAC, or a 10BOAC, all were used in the 23J selfwinding Bulova's of the period.

Opening the case on these is not too hard if you have the correct tool, It is a spanner style wrench and Bulova made these for their dealer/watchmakers. You can find them on eBay for as little as $.99 + shipping.

They used letter designations for size and the "G" size is the most universal for the Bulova's like yours.

You can also buy a "Universal opener" for around $10-20.00 made in China that will work, but the old factory style works the best for the cases that haven't been open for awhile.

Happy birthday back Plainsmen! From what I am gathering on this site is that alot of us seem to have similar stories. I would like to hear more about other's stories and what got so many of us into collecting vintage Bulova's. It would be interesting to get some stories and add them to the site.

Hiya Oldticker, I appreciate the info! This watch is actually a manual wind watch. I do have a picture of the back and crystal in the new watches listing under Beau Brummell TW, and based on other watches from the period I thought the most likely movements would be the 10bzc or 10bz. With this watch, there isn't a back to open. You open this watch by taking out the crystal. I've done some research and found a tool for taking out the crystal but it's pretty expensive and I don't have the funds to purchase it at this time. Do you if there are any other tools that I could use to pop a crystal from my watch without damaging it or the crystal?Thx

I must have missed the link with the pictures of the back, your right, you need a crtystal lift, it has a bunch of fingers that grab the crystal and squeezes it together so you can lift it out of the groove.

There are a bunch of them from China also listed for under $20.00, but I don't know if they are any good...

The dial on your watch looks like it says selfwinding? or am I seeing things?

Just seeing things. LOL. It actually says waterproof. Ya the 3rd one is very similar to what I found. I'll check into seeing if a China model might work for me. Thanks for the help!
