Submitted by airborne on May 9, 2013 - 4:13am

Dear friends.

Is this Bulova drivers watch rare. I cant find any information about its ultra curved. Like the Gruen ultra curved curvex drivers watch. I know its about from 1935.

All information appreciated.

Here is a screen shot from the side.

I like it very much. Very cool to have on the side off the arm. And very practical.

Curvex, as noted, is a Gruen patented trademark, both in case design and movt design. Bulova themselves probably never used the word, although this didn't stop the jewellers or the public from calling everything curved a 'curvex'. The Gruen curvex is actually more curved and thin, due to the multi-level train layout of the movt. Non-Gruen curved watches are always thicker, and the curve is due to the case alone.

Designed for "smartness"?

These are fascinating watches, but would they fit the average wrist today?
If the vintage watches with original straps I have from around this time are anything to go by, and I have a 7.5 inch wrist, no!

What is the value?

We don't offer pricing on a watch since the price is what ever a collector is willing to pay. Any where from $1.00 to $10,000.00.

If you want to say that the price of anything is based on what a collector is willing to pay, then nothing could ever be appraised. However, if you watch the antiques roadshow, or look at auction catalogs, you can see what similar items have sold for in the past to get an "estimated" value.

All I am asking is what similar models have sold for in the past. It is an absolute cop out to say "We don't offer pricing on a watch since the price is what ever a collector is willing to pay. Any where from $1.00 to $10,000.00."
