This is a question I've also asked myself. I don't believe we have any information to show that it is or isn't. Matbe Geoff can offer some advise. The box would certainly be preiod.

I'd also like to find out for sure what box it originally came in.

Purely from a marketing point of view (25 years in the business)...

I would NEVER have put this Red, White, & Blue Beauty in THAT box. I would rather think that it came in a much more appropriate (color and otherwise) box.

After all, this Watch must have been quite a showpiece when it was first introduced!

My 2 cents.

Agree Jeff - the "Chronograph C" certainly should have been presented in something more appropriate than that orange thing. Mine came to me in the clam shell pictured above and several that I have seen sell over the years have also been in this type case. While this box is period to the watch we don't know what it came with originally short of a new ad being discovered.

The "Stars and Stripes" name often given to this watch is not the Bulova name but was tagged somewhere along the way, much like the "Woody" ( I think we can blame Jerin for that one). Also note that there are two variants to this type of clam shell display case, one with an Accutron symbol on the top and one with a "B".

Makes me wonder why we don't see the original box around at all, unless this orange one is the original.
