Does it Belong on this site?

Hi, guys -

I have a 1963 Ladies Bulova with the words Movement Rebuilt on the dial.  Is it still a valid Bulova, or one that can be used as part of the database here?  I would assume that the rebuilding of the movement would throw a wrench into the dating process, but I could be wrong (wouldn't be the first time!).

Also, why proclaim it has a rebuilt movement right on the dial?  Fraud prevention?  Or maybe it was part of a Bulova watchmaker's class?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.  I won't add it to the database until the experts here say yea or nay.

Merc,

Right now there is a poll on what to call a watch like yours, it is now known as a Frankenbully, but many think that term is to degrading.

I personally think that it should be added to the database, not as a true Bulova, but as a non-conforming Bulova. This will serve two purposes, it will allow others who collect to see examples of what is out there and passed off as a "Bulova" , and allow you to post it if you so chose.

There is a post in the threads relating to the "Rebuilt Bulova" dials, and if I can find it I will post the link.

Hold off for now, but it should have a category soon.

These were 'kits' sold by companies other than Bulova,  one was called TK, Theodore Kagen group, of New York. I'm guessing they were authorized to do this, but maybe they weren't. The kit comprised a new RGP case with crystal, and dial. Each was identified by what Bulova movt fitted into it. They didn't bother with Bulova names, so a lot of odd Bulovas may have resulted from this. If your dial and case were worn out, you could get your jeweller/watchmaker to install your old movt into the new furniture. The quality was not up to Bulova standards at all, IMHO. I have included a link to an active auction, my apologies if this is against policy, but I couldn't figure out how to attach a pic to this thread.

But to answer the question 'does it belong?', I'd say yes, but not in a category for "original" models.
