Good 14mm leather straps?

Submitted by AVO on January 23, 2013 - 3:12pm

I asked about expanders the other day for my recently acquired Broker (14mm lug width) and got some great answers, mainly DON'T!  Don't worry, guys, I won't.

So this gorgeous little watch is currently on a fairly cheap looking black leather strap and needs to upgrade, so I just wondered what you experienced owners are wearing and recommending.  I quite like lizard, ostrich and croc, and I think the watch looks best on black.

I'm in the UK FWIW.  Many thanks.

PS Great and helpful site, this!

Hi bud, I live in the UK too.
All the ones you say look good on vintage, but I prefer a mid to reddish brown croc on yellow gold, and black lizard or croc on white.

It's personal choice on leather/strap.  If your gonna wear and use the watch, the leather won't do the damage that the metal bands will.  However- if your gonna display the watch in a case and NOT wear it, using a near-original metal band would be cool.  So it's a question for you of "use" or "display" :)

I have a dozen or more watches I'd never wear (well maybe if we all got together for dinner some time, I'd make an exception).  They have metal bands which won't hurt anything while in this "display mode".

I am quite fond of black croc or lizzard.

OK, thanks.  I'm definitely a wearer, William!

My question was poorly phrased; I guess what I really wanted to know was any makes or sources for straps - mens' straps online seem mainly to start at 16mm, and the specialist bespoke guys seem to be making straps for Panerai and other town hall clocks.

I shall browse the jewellery stores at the weekend, but if anyone has any sources I'd be  grateful.

Get thee to ebay - search 14mm leather - 3,000 choices! Make sure you consider whether you buy long, short or regular length in a strap though (but I myself still like an scissors type expansion band - not the self adjusting ones though - on that watch).
