how do I remove the dust cover

Submitted by Bob Bruno on April 23, 2011 - 10:27pm

I need to adjust the regulator arm on my LE but I can't get the dust cover off. Are special tools needed?

If I do get it off is it hard to get it back on? Should I just take it to the watchmaker and let a pro do it?

Bob, I usually just wiggle the crown/stem up/down and back and forth gently and they usually pop up. They go back on easier than they come off. If there's gunk built up around the metal you can use a small piece of emery cloth or "scrunge pad" to remove the build up and use a light coat of oil arount the edge before you put it back together. I've had good success with using a case opening tool (dull, knife-like thing).  I very slowly and gently work it around the outside edge of the metal ring, using a little upward pressure.  Eventually, it pops up.

I do it allthe time, very easy to do. Just use a very small sharp screw driver and lever it off using the outer case. It'll pop off easy enough. Getting it back isn't that hard either. Just align the plastic and the ring and gently snap back into place.

Thank you all for the helpful tips. That's kinda how I thought it was done but I guess I'm just scared to give it a try. I'l try tomarrow.
