Push to set Bulova?

Submitted by finiteguy on February 13, 2013 - 8:21pm

I recently bought a Bulova 17 jewel tank shaped watch. I'm not sure when it was made, but it appears to be old. I noticed that you push the crown in to set it? Is that right, or is it messed up.  There seems to be a mangled washerlike spring under them stem. Not sure if I like this feature. I have old Ingersol dollar pocket watches that are also push to set.

I would include a picture of the watch, but I can not see how that is possible.

Movement is 17 jewel 10AX no date code

If the movement is a 10AX the watch is not a push to set, and something is a bit off about the watch. You can try to PM Will Smith and he will talk you through taking a picture or two and help you to download to the site or he may just have you send to him and he will download.
If you look on the case back carefully you should be able to find a serial number and the Bulova signature and the gold content ie. 14K RGP or RGF. The inside of the back of the case should have the Bulova signature as well and if you look around the area of the stem where it goes into the movement, some where in that general area you should fine a symbol that will define the age range of the watch.
I would love to see this watch and hope you do not get discouraged with it and try to get Will to help you.
I would help but I am not very computer literate when it comes to loading pics and putting them on the site.

Hi Finiteguy, does the watch wind and run? Having to push in to set the time could be a very easy fix,

Yoke bridge could be broken or the clutch lever spring, both easy fixes.
