Is this a real Accutron?

Submitted by byronclark on November 9, 2010 - 11:51pm

Greetings

The first thing I noticed is the sec hand moves in increments not a sweep second hand and it sounds as if it ticks, so I opened the case and the movement does not appear to be like any pictures I have seen. Inside of back case says use 218 battery. It has date code -M9.

Here is a link to some photos.

At the top of this page click on "Watch Links". On the Watch Links Page click on "The Accutron Page." Thers is a bunch of info on the page that should help you.

It is strange for an Accutron to tick and the second hand to move in increments. How long have you had the watch? Does it keep accurate time? Has movement ever hummed and has the second hand ever swept smoothly?

It's not uncommon Byron. The original 218 movement has been changed for a later Quartz one. I think many watch makers wouldn't go near the 218, and if a coil goes down, this is a very common fix.
