So I have up until now been mostly buying Bulovas from all over the place to repair, building skill and simultaneously educating myself on Bulova history and collections. I am now at the point where I am going to start collecting in earnest and wanted to set some initial targets. What are some opinions on your favorite three? (Please don't say a Platinum Accutron) I look forward to some good discussion!
Wow.... so many but hrmm.... there are a few that are near and dear to my heart. I can't give you top three... I'll have to do five!
#1 - The 1943 BLACKHAWK
Probably because of the name and the WW2 reference as well as the truely two toned dial.
#2 1938 CORRIGAN (aka Doug Corrigan)
Truely the most art deco Bulova of all time in my opinion... so squared and stepped.... about as cool as they come. One of the guys is getting some of the original lug extenders fabricated. I have a correct set but I'm one of about 2 or 3 guys that do.
#3 - 1932 JUMP HOUR
The first digital really.... so sweet.
#4 - 1960 PRESIDENT
Love the triangular case on this guy.... one of my favorites.
#5 - 1939 RITE-ANGLE
Really special watch that comes in both men's and women's.
#Bonus - The BERKSHIRE's
This is somewhere in there as well... the Berkshire set.... dunno if this is Deco or Nuevo but this design is awesome!
Ditto what Plains and Rev Rob said. I don't have a Corrigan, but am kinda into the aviation part of things as Bulova watches go. And the really old pre 1924 stuff. Definitely the first Lone Eagle Cut Corner.
I also remember reading one of the nic names for Charles Lindbergh was "the nighthawk"...but that model name could have many other origins..... Not referring to Plains Blackhawk above, but just typing out loud as I think about possible favorites.... and the Ruth Elder.
I do have an early Hudson Maxim pocket watch, signed dial etc..., I still have to enter it on site.
Any Bulova will do...but if you want to set your sights on a few, Right Angle, Photo watch, any L.E., and one of the early 60's Accutrons would be a start...remember, there are thousands to choose from, so it all depends on your tastes...Like the old Lay's potato chip jingle....you can't eat (collect) just one!

When I started I was after every model of His Excellency, the common ones can be found every day on the auction sites. Some are in need of repair and restoration but that is what I like to do for a winter hobby.
I only need four more HE models to have them all after 10 years of collecting. Problem is that I keep getting distracted by other nice Bulova's that come along. As all the members say "it's an addiction"

This is what makes the bulova collector base such a great collector base: variety sans pretention! I Love that super compressor and the Corrigan with the lugs! I went through an A-11 phase and kept a few. right now on my bench have an obscenely large Bulova Cal. 21AE aircraft A-11 clock that is fantastic. I recently bought a 28 slot Bulova chest, so I suppose I just have to go ahead and fill it! The ideas so far have been great!
