Vintage watch bracelets - where to find?

Submitted by pbj204 on April 24, 2011 - 11:10am

I'm looking for an original Bulova Sky King bracelet.  Does anyone have a good place to search?  Thanks

pbj204, contact NovaNovice and see if she has a pic of the original band. She's working on putting together a database of original bands, since Bulova produced so many watches and variations, pics help!!

Let me clarify that a bit.  I'm working on a list of models and their band type (as well as other features of each watch) as depicted and/or described in the ads.  The list doesn't include pictures.   Band types are generally described as things like, "Leather strap, tan, stitched" or "Link bracelet", for example.  To see exactly what band(s) were sold with the Sky King, with such details as engraving pattern and size/shape of links, you would need to consult the ads (1930).

The only place I know to find vintage bracelets is eBay.  You just have to keep an eye out for them.  Don't think I've ever seen one for the Sky King specifically, but you can certainly find period bracelets and straps if you are patient (and willing to pay $$$$).

That is a nice band.  If you want to sell it, let me know.  Thanks.

Very nice, Geoff.  However, I think the OP was trying to find out where to buy the bracelet, not what it looks like.  Is yours for sale?

 Hi People!

I just wanted to mention that a good source for old vintage bands and bracelets is old jewelry stores.

I work for many stores and all of the older ones have old bands that are not on display, They often would sell watches that may have a bracelet, and the customer would want leather, so the stores would change out the new bands and throw the one that was on the watch in a drawer, and they would end up with a bunch of them after years of doing this.

I have bought many real nice vintage bands like this, but you need to ask them and most will dig them out for you and sell them cheap. You may not fint the exact one your looking for but you will find them.

 Hope this helps.  Mike..
