Was there a women's Rite-Angle?

Submitted by plainsmen on March 4, 2011 - 11:41am

If so... I just picked up this "ladies Rite Angle"... I'm looking for differences.. and maybe the bottom lugs aren't as long?

This one was advertised as a Ladies Rite-Angle sporting a 5AC, 17 Jewel movement?

My men's Rite-Angle is sitting in front of me and has a 8AE, 17 Jewel movment...

Uhmmmmm?

That may well have been an option by say 1940 or 41? This was afterall a GREAT design... and thereby almost certainly a very GOOD seller? As was that killer dial concept! (On the second one w/plain bezel...)

As for a "la petite" Rite Angle? Maybe?? Certainly possible??? Any other "matched sets" made before the ' 50s "his and hers????" Might make for a good FEATURE, eh????? But that one probably isn't a ladies! (The rite angle mens is NOT very large...)

I dunno Scott... the dial says it's not the same watch... looks smaller.. I'll have to put them side by side when I get the "ladies" plus it's got that small movement in it.

Looks like a swapped Dial (Movement?) in a Rite Angle Case.

Dial is not following the Case lines.

Yeah could be.... don't know though.. there wouldn't be a light behind it.. that's most likely the refraction from the crystal.

Also... I'd appreciate if in the future you don't put your logo on any of my pics... I've noticed that a couple times.  Thanks...

image editor is template, I'll correct that Sir.

The Dial on the 'Ladies' version is definately flat whereas the 'RITE ANGLE' Dial is curved to fit the case lines.

Does look a bit flat... we'll have to see the difference in curvature between the men's and women's when we have them side by side.

So little information it might be  hard to track down the correct dial/movement.  Shoot this is the first I've seen...  albeit the last 6 months or so that I've been paying attention.

Jerin,

I have had several of these, and my gut instint is they did have flat dials, I dont recall curved dials at all.

But I must say it has been a long time since I had one.

Sweet!  That helps quite a bit Mike.  As a watchmaker I put quite a bit of stock in your opinion.... and as MY watchmaker... your set in stone man!  Haha...

Curved Bulova dials certainly exist (or are we talking about the Rite Angle model only)

I've worked in a number of models with a curved dial.....no idea if the RA is meant to have one or not.

Whats your mens got Plains?. Also be interesting to see if the ladies case is the same size as the mens.

Regardsless it'll make another wonderful matching set Pains!

But lets not forget that a 5AC movement will not fit into a 8AE hole!

I'm thinking it's going to have to be a bit smaller... I'm excited to see.  Oh you guys will definately get some good pics...

Hey Jerin,

I'm not saying that these are correct, But they didnt just change the dial, as if it originaly had a curved dial, then they would have had to change the canon pinion and the hour wheel as both parts are alot higher and if they just changed the dial to a flat one the hands would be sitting alot higher off the dial.

I have seen alot of watchmakers simply change out the whole movement with the dial intact, but if this happened, I'm sure the customer would not like the results after the dial was lowered or changed out completely. Just a guess tho.

I've seen the ladies version of the Rite Angle before.  Fairly certain that this is one.

Will you look at that dial on the slant!!! And I'm blaming International, looks like even Bulova didn't always get it right!

Movement alignment could be a wack out. There is usually some play in the case stem hole to along a degree or two of rotation.

I have always been under the impression that on an original 'RiITE ANGLE' the Dial will follow the Crystal shelf, which is slightly curved.

On any Watch the Dial always follows the case lines, I don't know of one that doesn't ?
