This 1966 Accutron was my Grandfather's watch, my Dad inherited it in the 80s and I inherited it last year.  I was relieved when I opened the battery case and saw that the battery had been removed for storage during all those years.  I am not sure how much use the watch received in its day, my Dad was not a watch wearer, so it had been stored without use since the 80s.  There are some scratches on the crystal, but nothing major, one has to look hard to notice.

I did some research on the battery replacement, read good reviews on the accucells and placed an order.  After installing the new accucell in the battery chamber, I was a bit nervous to hear the humming but no movement.  I gave the watch a few taps, as was recommended and hooray, the second hand started moving.  The 1st accucell lasted a little under a year, which I read was typical.  I am on my second battery and it's keeping great time (keeping up with iPhone clock).

I've done a little research on getting it serviced, but am not confident anyone in my area knows their way around an accutron.  It's working fine now, but does anyone here recommend I do get it looked at?  I do have a concern, if I take it in to get it serviced, I will receive a watch back not keeping as good of time as it does now.

I do not know anything about the actual model type...I know it is an accutron 214 and I've seen a couple of comparable dials.  The back says it's 10 K.T. gold filled bezel, stainless steal case.  Is this a typical model?  It does not seem to be anything fancy, just a typical model popular at the time, but if anyone could shed some more detail on the particulars of this model, I would appreciate it.

I found the watch which had not been running since at least 1991. Like many other stories it was my grandfather's and I got it when he passed away in 1991. Found it and after 2 months got it working I know its a M6 "214" but it's not a spaceview or anything super-pricey. My grandfather who liked new gadgets, was a blue-colar worker so I would not expect him to get any thing else. Can any one tell me more on the watch. I put a new band on it to help pop it out. But the orginal band on it is simply a flexband and not marked Accutron.* Update I had the back removed and took picutres the best I could. Some of the markings are blurred so I wrote down the numbers as well. Here they are :Inside watch states; "Bulova 214  pat 2.971.323" While the back states 2624   8-6. The only thing I have questions on is that when I gave it to the jewler I did not write anything down; i.e. serial numbers etc. I have had family members who have had jewlers in the past take valuable parts out and replace them with cheaper parts. From the photos do you folks think it's alright?

Thanks
