Christmas for a man who appreciates vintage watches

I am utterly clueless about the value and significance of these things, but I really like the look of this watch and, from the little I've found out, it could be a nice gift.  Can y'all tell me if it appears to be The Real Thing, first of all, and what you might know about it just from the pics?

Many thanks!

Nothing significant about the year of manufacture Virginia, top of the line 23 J movement and the watch does  appear to be original, apart from the generic crown, and in above average condition. A nice watch.

Thanks for the feedback, Mark and OldTicker! You've both given me comfort in knowing it is genuine. The most important thing for me was that I was getting a real Bulova - even if it's a bit high.  Other than that, it is a lovely watch and will look great on him.

I'll report back on how he likes it!

Merry Christmas!

Date Code 1956.

Nice looking watch. Is it worth $250?... yes and some....can you get them cheaper?...yes....what's it worth?....whatever someone is willing to pay for it :-)

I still find it amazing that most people will happily pay $200+ for a normal modern day (boring) Chinese or Japanese quartz watch but not for a true classic vintage watch such as this.

All looks to be authentic on this watch, nice and clean, both of which are very important in my books.

Stephen, I couldn't agree more about the boring quartz watches of today.

Taking another look. 23J waterproof, self winding it could be an early Sea Clipper?
