The difference between the early 40's Banker and the Ranger is...

Not so much...

On the Left:  My grandfathers 1940 Banker, 15 Jewel, 10AX.... dial was left to the elements without a crystal for decades probably...

On the Right:  a 1941 Ranger, 15 Jewel, 10AX,  I picked up on ebay for a song... dial has a big rust spot where one of the hands got rusty.

But if you look at the watches... pretty much spot on except the dial variation.

Cases look interchangable with the only visual difference being the dial. Note the 7 and the 6.

I see the lightbox is being put to good use. I'm certainly going to make one now after seeing your results.

One of them is mis ID'd. The dial variation is most likely due to the different Years.

The tilt to the dial on the watch on the right and the fact that the Hour hand is reaching across the track makes it evident that someone has played with this one.

They're the same watch, one's a 1940 and one is a 1941.

My lightbox is in the works as We speak, made the shell Yesterday and picked up the Poster board today. How is it there's always glue in the House until You need some.....

Does this help or confuse the issue even more?

Banker from a 1942 Ad, Ranger from 1940. Note the hands and 6 on the dials.

Confuses. The watch on the left is a known original and according to the ads a 1940 Ranger. The watch on the right therefore has a 1940 Ranger case with what seem to be the dial and hands of 1942 Banker.

Am I seeing that right?

*The ad for the Ranger mentions the expansion band with a leather insert. Further confirming the known original as the Ranger model.

I dunno boys... that  leather insert in the band is absolutely what is on my granfathers watch... maybe I do in fact have a ranger here....

But.. this is how we id's the Banker.... that is of course before we got a few more ad's for those years.

Is It possible that the banker sides are plain in the ads, whereas the ranger has decorated sides?

Stephen,

Definately.

Plainsman,

There's no doubt in My mind that Your Grandfathers watch is a Ranger.

Annnnd here we have another transition in 1942 where the RANGER... turned into the CHIEF... and then there was an entirely new RANGER...
