Watch Dating

Submitted by DennisVA on January 9, 2011 - 8:12pm

I have what is probably a dumb question, I have several watches from the late 40s early 50s that have a A9 stamped either on the back of the case or on the movement itself. If you go by the bulova scale that means 2009, I have owned some of these watches for 15 years so they can't be 2009. I'm totaly confused.

Thanks for any help, Dennis

That ones tricked me before as well.  It's actually a "4" instead of an "A".....

1949 is your year..... that 4 looks a pile like an A though.  Been there guy.... don't feel bad.

It is an A. For the 1940's.

A= 1948- 1949 (And there were also "48" & "49" date stampings, as well !)

L= 1950- 1959

M= 1960- 1969

N= 1970- 1979

O = 1980- 1989?
