Bulova Senator (1940?)

Submitted by nwfisk on January 24, 2011 - 9:20am

Hello all, I'm just starting to become interested in vintage watches, Bulova watches in particular, and I recently failed my first attempt at picking one up via auction. Now, I'm hoping to more specifically identify the watch, so I might search one out.

The auction (with images) was at:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rt=nc&nma=true&item=26071…

The case has a number stamped on the back - "0713444"

Inside the number "T516-6" is listed.

Beyond identifying the watch, can anyone suggest anyplace I might find another identical to it, or generally getting started with learning more about Bulova watches? Thanks!

40's Senator / Spencer Case.

The Dial is not and from different model, notice how it does not follow the curvature of the Case.

This one is almost finished, an original Dial will follow the Case lines perfectly:

You've found THE best place online to learn more about Bulova time pieces, there is a wealth of knowlege here.

Tread lightly on eBay, the Watch Gods were with You on this one.

probably is the original dial but has been newly refinished to the sellers spec, unfortunately, dial restorers rarely have the case to match it up against so some will invariably be out on the curve of the case.

Thanks!

Browsing the site, I noticed that the dial from the restored auction watch was in fact from a President F, and it's that dial that I really like, although that Senator is nice as well.

Where does one looking to start out in collecting Bulova watches - ones from the 1920's-1940's in my case - find them beyond eBay? Local reputable jewlery stores? Estate sales?

I've always really loved watches, and have really just fallen in love with the design of the old Bulovas...
