From the bench . . a 1940's sports model

Won on eBay as "runs then stops", not quite sure how - seeing as the barrel wheel screw was sheared, as was the stem,  so no way could it actually have be wound by Honest Joe. Oh well, it runs now!

front

I put in a replacement barrel complete, a new stem&crown and a new size 224 crystal. The pallet was a bit sloppy, so replaced that too. Movement is a 10BAC (AS 1200 ebauche) with indirect seconds.

Currently on Wifey's wrist. If it survives that, all is well ;-)

This style of watch seemed to be quite popular back then. The sweep seconds, the 1/5 sec subdivisions, austere numerals, etc gave rise to the title "Sports Watch" in a similar way to anything with 13-24 numeric markers these being called a "military" watch (puke). It's quite small, 25mm diameter.

Grab the barf bag, it's a Military watch, 'Military themed' or hybrid of. The caseback will tell.

What's a 'Sports Watch'?

What is the diameter of your watch case? I have been looking for a name for this Bulova. Folks have been referring to this as a Military Style watch. Diameter is about 30mm. Dial 1 minute & 1 second divisions.

Wayne,

Not Military as it was never 'issued' to Military personnel but is Military themed and looks like a  'WATER TITE'

look for the words *WATER TITE* on the caseback  as shown

Fifth

MILITARY STYLE. As in Air Warden, Nighthawk etc.

It's not a Water Tite or a Water Tight.  By the way what is the diameter of a Water Tite?

Looks like the back was pressed on. Keeps great time!

Wayne,

31mm

Caseback style in My last post is the 1 piece case from the early 1950's.  2 piece stem, Bezel around the Glass pops off and the Dial and movement lift out as a unit.

Yours looks the same, earlier version of the one piece case.

The Crown is definately Bulova Waterproof.

It's a 'WATER TITE'.

You can't forget that during the war, they cranked theses out by the truck load, some went to military, some did not, as the market to lower ranking military was good. Generally only people of rank or supervisory positions in front line type positions would have been issued a timepiece (aircrew as well)most others had to buy their own. Slap a non military marked back on it and sell em up !!! They had to do something to make money as the issue timepieces were sold to govt at cost.
