So... I stole from Bob today...

Submitted by plainsmen on February 24, 2011 - 8:55pm

I stole Bob's idea to make a simple website for my Bulova collection.  I was looking at how great his turned out and thought... wait.. you know why just have all these sweet watches stuffed away?

I can't wear them all at once to show them off.  I can't even show you them all on here without doing quite a bit of searching.

So I made one!  I really think it would be a very cool idea to have us all make one of those free websites to host each of our collections to show off to each other.  That way we can maybe link to each others sites and have our own little Bulova community extended out from the mothership mybulova.com!

I made mine in less than an hour.  They have a very easy template system to use and it wasn't hard uploading anything.

Please check out Bob's original ripped off site and mine as well to view our collections!

P.S.... I found that I have a handful of my pieces don't have any good pictures so I'll have to recitfy that in the near future!

If you make a site of your own please link it here so I can add you on my links page!

Bob's:  bobswatches.webnode.com/

Mine:  falconswatches.webs.com/

Yours:  ???  =)

Jerin , Nicely done. You did all that in an hour? You must be a lot more puter savvy than me, It took me almost a year to get mine to look like it does. I think you will find the site will help you enjoy your collection even more. Good job.

Thanks Bob... it was pretty fun actually.  I've quite a bit of work as I want to put descriptions on each watch maybe saywhen I got it... how I like it.. maybe before and after pictures if I still have them.  Then maybe sort of blog about each new acquisition and the process I went through to snag that one or whatever.

I'm all ambiscous right now but we'll see what happens!

Hey, great minds think alike!   I got my Web site setup yesterday.  I still have to photograph all my watches, so the site won't be open for viewing for a while, but the structure is there, just waiting for the pics.  I used Google's free web hosting.   It too offers a bunch of templates, so it was easy to pick one that was already set up for this sort of site and then just change the page titles and stuff to fit my needs.   The hardest part was finding a good name for the site that wasn't already taken.

My goal is to have an online inventory for insurance purposes, so I'll have pictures of each watch, along with model, year, estimated value, etc.   I might someday add more details about the history of Bulova watches for the benefit of family and friends who visit the site and can't imagine why anyone would be in to such a thing.

I also have a Mickey Mouse watch collection, so I'll have that on there as well.

Once I've got some content posted, I'll pass along the address.

Sweet Nova!  This is going to be a bit of fun I think.  Brings all our pieces to light and lets everyone enjoy or covet as they may!

I seem to recall a rule from yesteryear against that coveting stuff , but that's no fun! It's a lot cheaper to covet, than to own.

I remember it saying don't covet the wife... nor the ox.... nor the donkey... but I don't remember Him talking about the watch!! hehe...

(dear Lord... I apoligize for talking silly about the coveting and please don't strike stupid ol' Plainsmen down... Amen)

Jerin,

I thought about doing this when I first saw Bob's great site, but never looked into it. I like the fact that it can be set up in a few hrs. (it may have only taken you 1, not the case with my Forrest Gump computer skills!)

I have added your site to my favorites along with Bob's, just so I can see what you are all up to! :-)

Greg, Give it a try. If I can do it anybody can. And by the way thanks for the nice complement. Sometime I wonder if anyone is looking at it but it's a good way to keep track of things for insurance purposes.

I will Bob, your are right on Insurance purposes, if the house and safe's burn up the web is still there!

It will be a year long project, over 60 wrist and 150 pocket watches will take a month of Sundays to photograph!
