So maybe I'll start my own sales page...

Meh..  ebay's rating system is a joke.  Maybe I'll just start my own site with a few pieces now and again...

The cost would be pretty cheap... and I wouldn't have to deal with some moron who leaves negaive feedback because a 10 year old watch he had for three days had a pin in the band break.

I was "the ball," 25 years ago... whilest studying the East, the mind, and mind control, as well as business and so on... vs. crewing my cud, with the ever increasing "herd" of "sheeple..." watching TV, etc. And if you think there is SECURITY in a J.O.B. (for the Burea of Indian Affairs?) then you really should watch (and be one) with "The Reservation" video I recently emailed, bro...

I AM the "observer..." and 95% +/- of my fellow humans, are the FROG... in the pot of H2O... on the bussen burner... at 212 degrees f + (Controlled by the "Unseen hand," who dealt you the bad cards...)

):-)  Yawn...

Why the heck can't I "edit" my damn posts??? (i.e. change or delete???)

Snarl... Ok, no more French Roast cafe' for me, today! (Black, English Tea time!?) Sorry to be so "intense!" Solitary refinement (Being solo, never getting out, all winter, blah... makes one a "dull boy!?)

Kill your TV, burn the newspapers and pray we don't end up with "Internet 2!?"

I'm thinking more along the lines of what Jay has.  Something nice and small.  Probably doesn't fly through the watches.. but gets what he's looking for them and has fun doing it.

Though... the thrill of watching two amigos going mano to mano in a bidding war for one of your watches is pretty damned exciting though!  Muahahahah!!

Yah,

Especially if you have every angle rigged, like Pierre and Don Jon, their controllers and the Banksters above them...

Yah, a site akin to Jay's and several others, would increase "public awareness" and "brand recognition," with some Google AdWords investment, as you'll never get indexed w/o a "mega webpage" generation approach (like eBay or this site) w/o some very consistent and ever refined (i.e. competitive) advertising!

Jerin,

Some guy left  FB three days later... because a spring bar broke!? That's eBay for ya??? Then they have 6- 8 weeks to leave a FB... even if they never completed the transaction!? People act like buck passers, or even THIEVES... then are REWARDED for it!? Yah... I've had about ENOUGH of that nonsense, the second time around...

I have some guy in Italia claiming he never received the Rolex box, he wouldn't pay for "tracking on," when the ad also clearly stated "no shipping outside the Continental US!?" (Wonder WHY a buyer abroad can STILL BUY an item... when you don't check the  box? THANKS, GreedPlay/PlayPal!) Then there's the deceptive ads for worn cases, rusty parts, defect crystals, Franken Bulls!!!

Life goes on :-p

Plains,

I don't know if this will be any comfort to you, but I'll offer it in hopes that it will.  I've bought hundreds of items on eBay over the span of many years, and I've had a wide range of experiences, both good and bad.  Still, I may not be a typical buyer, so just take this as one person's perspective.

I don't expect a seller to have perfect feedback.  I know that there are plenty of nutcases out there who will leave unjustified feedback.  I also know that many people only leave positive feedback even when the experience was bad.  They do that because an angry seller will then leave them negative feedback as retaliation.  I've had it happen to me.  In my opinion, the entire feedback system on eBay is fraught with problems and, therefore, has little, if any, value.

After I've decided that I'm interested in an item--typically a watch--I glance at the feedback rating.  Only if the rating falls below 98% do I raise an eyebrow.  In those cases, if I'm really interested in the watch, I read the negative feedback comments, paying particular attention to the seller's response.  If the seller is nasty and defensive or didn't respond at all, then I do not bid.  However, if the seller presents a reasonable response or makes it clear they offered a refund or other remedy, then I do bid.

I think that someone who is serious about collecting watches looks at the watch first and foremost.  If you've given them enough information to evaluate the authenticity of the watch, then they don't need to trust you personally, and, therefore, the feedback rating becomes far less important.  I'm most suspicious of sellers who present little information about the item.  They come off as having something to hide.  If their feedback rating is also low, then I move on.

Bottom line is, try not to take it so hard.  For serious buyers, a few negative comments are not fatal.  I think it would be darn near impossible to maintain a 100% positive feedback rating when selling vintage.  I suspect that most people's expectations just aren't in line with the condition of a 50 or 60 year old used item.  That's just something you've got to expect.

Hope that helps a little.

Thanks Lisa.... that does help.  Just frustrating I guess.  I can't imagine how frustrating it would be for some of the guys on here that rely on the sales as a living.  That would be too stressful.

I suspect three things kick in for the big guns:  1) high volume means that an occasional negative feedback doesn't do much to the overall rating, 2) they get used to it and adjust expectations accordingly, and 3) higher volume seems to go along with more flexibility on returns--so fewer ultimately unhappy customers.

Just my guess. . . haven't been there myself.

Yes that just about sums it up Nova.

Low volume equals risk. Even though a seller bends over backwards to accomodate.

No wish to defend eBay, there must be better ways of policing the site, but they are in a no win situation. On the one hand we want rid of dodgy sellers yet on the other hand we don't like it when we have to obey the same rules.

But I still maintain that without Greed Bay it's unlikely that we would all be here discussing Bulova watches, and like it or not, it's still the only market place worth using to sell vintage watches until someone comes along with a viable alternative.
