Old watch and can't find it on any of the ads

Submitted by drkatherine1 on March 12, 2011 - 9:59pm

I have tried to identify this watch through all your resources.  However, no matter what resources I have tried, I can't find anything that is close to it.  Can anyone help?  Thank you.

Can you post a photo of the movement?  The fact that the case is marked "Warranted 25 years" would indicate that the case was made prior to 1924, after which such wording was prohibited.

The photo that I was able to get leaves a lot to be desired.  But here it is

It has a 10 in a square, 15 jewels,  3 adjustments.  It does not work but it is very clean and I am interested in getting direction on where to take it and if it is worth the investment.

Thank you for your comments and time.

Looks like a converted pocket watch....

Seeing the case screws, I agree that it is a recased or converted pocket watch.  Whether it is worth fixing is  dependent on any sentimental value.

Would depend on why it doesn't run.

A gummed up movement is a simple fix, have it inspected by a competant Watchmaker...emphasis on the competant and Watchmaker.

Gotta hunch this watch is smaller then you guys think.  Might just be a generic Swiss that had a movement swap.

Jay you are correct about the size.  I know what a regular pocket watch looks like.  This watch is very small, petite, and dainty as if it was made like this for a woman.

Someone spent some effort to create this, I like it, and would send it to a watchmaker if it were mine...several people here are more than able to help with that. Expense wouldnt be all that much

DR. for those close ups see if your camera has a macro mode, it will allow very good focus for those close ups and sets the exposure more finely for the avail light and white balance...you may have to brace the camera (tripod or against something stable) to get good shots, but we would be able to id the movement and date of manufacture easily.

I will see if I can take some better photos and post them later today.  I apologize to everyone I thought the identificaiton of this watch would be easy and not so time consuming.  I really appreciate your professional help.

No apologies needed..Bulova was crazy with naming watches lol its always a struggle to Id those older ones but your is looking to be just a Bulova movement creatively converted to this watch with a case and dial , I think its cool and worth fixing just to wear but as a collectors Bulova, not likely to be much.

Ok I got off my duff and got my Canon 7D out of the closet and put on my macro lense and did the best I could.  Here are the shots that I got.  They are a little better that the others that I posted.

It's close, but not the same movement.  Nice find though.  I believe the movement to be a much earlier date.

Someone said  it would be possible to identify the movement by the number in the square on the movement.  That number is 10 and is clearly located in the photos.  Is that any help?

I'm gonna peg this movement as a Bulova 10AAI made around 1923-1924.  The little watch is beginning to grow on me.

Thank all of you for your help.  I love this little watch and I will now follow your guidance and get it fixed so it will join the other almost identical SADA watch that I have that is working and I will wear them on special occasions.  The help you provide on this website is invaluable.  Again thank you so much.

Try powering the Crown (pull to set position and turn the hands forward) if it begins to tick all it needs is cleaned.

Balance looks good from here, no obvious issues.

Well I tried to power the watch and it didn't work at all.  In fact one of the hands came off the face so now I need to send it in.  Thanks for your help.  How can I contact the watchmaker you recommended by email or through the board here.  I tried by looking up his board name but it found several people by that name.
