Wow look at that....no curtin dial.

That's 2 models now that prove that not all AAs had a curtin dial.

Awesome find Jerin!

Very nice plains!  Have we ever figured out how many differect styles of the AA there are? I see 19 listed in the data base. I never realized there were that many.

Too many variants to limit to one Dial design.

I'll go on to bet there are more than Two Dial variants to this series of Bulova's.

That was a 51 ad also if I remember right, maybe a pattern with the dials or just a model year change?

Jerin,

What year is the Spiegel catalog and which issue?

1951 Spiegel's... uhmm.... found here:

cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll

Yes, I know it's a current ebay ad.. but it's a BIN... so it's not like anyone's waiting to pounce on it at the last second.

If it is a Fall 51' issue, that would mean the catalog was probably put togather in the spring/early summer, so post lawsuit model still called Academy Award.

It would be interesting to read what the settled lawsuit stated.

Time to google...

The lawsuit was appealed and not finally settled until 1956

lol!

From what I understand Bulova did not lose the right to use the name Academy Awards as the Academy's attempt to trademark the name was denied.......if there's an Attorney present We could argue that point. Ha!

Could You post the correct Glass for the 'R' ?  I need one.

I think the original ruling stopped Bulova from continued use of Academy Award but found that their use was not fraudulent or an intentional misrepresentation of having won an Academy Award or Oscar for any of its products so no damages or recovery of expenses were awarded.
