Looks like a Douglas but much more decorated...

Does the case have a Bulova signature printed on it?  Please either post pics of the inside and outside of the case back or tell us what's printed there.

It wouldn't be the first time we've seen an engraved version of a known model.  For example, I have an engraved and an unengraved Andrew.  We only have an ad showing the unengraved.

One thing that is odd about your watch is the 17 jewel count.  A quick review of the database indicates that both the Douglas and the seemingly identical but later produced Brigadier were 21 jewel.

So you suggest this could be a lower grade movement in a 'marriage' case? Interesting observation but can that be documented somehow? THANKS!

 Perhaps an export model?  Knowing the OP is not in the U.S. this may be an overseas model.  Where did you acquire the watch?  Our database of catalog pages and ads are, at this point, only those watches which were sold in the U.S.

EDIT  Never mind above comment.  It says USA right on the watch.  Not Swiss origin.

We now have an ad that shows this style (without the engraving) as the Ambassador in 1949, the Douglas prior to that.  The only evidence of a Brigadier model is an undated post card--which is posted in the watch database but not in the ads--so we don't know when it went by that name.

We still have no advert for a 17J engraved model like this one.  I now have this style case with engraving just on the sides of the bezel, dated 1950.  It also has a 17J movement.  I'm thinking these 17J engraved jobs are something else altogether, i.e., not a Douglas or an Ambassador, but without an advertisement, it's impossible to say.

G-S Catalog No. 52 shows these models as taking the same crystal as the Brigadier and Douglas:

• Engineer A
• Harrington
• Photo-Watch

We know what the Harrington and Photo-Watch look like, but the others are anyone's guess.
