Somebody outbid me on a running 'Blackout' this morning. I hope it was someone on here, who will appreciate the value of this relatively rare model!!

Bob, I know exactly what you mean! I used to sit there watching auctions end, and if I were out bid and had enough time to bid again, I'd agonize (briefly, of course) about it. A couple times I ended up bidding higher than I was really comfortable with, but lost anyway, and the relief outweighed the disappointment!!
Now, I put in my highest bid as close to the end as is convenient, then go find something else to do till well after the closing. And when I check my email, I always assume I've been outbid. Then it's a pleasant surprise to win! And I've gotten some nice pieces that way.
The other thing I've taken to doing is to put in an offer much lower than the BIN price on BIN/OBO listings, just in case. I've gotten some nice pieces that way, too.

Sniper or not, the highest bidder always wins. If your not prepared to bid to win, get a sniper and hope you get lucky.
BTW, The Blackout really isn't all that rare. Though we don't see them for a while, next month you may see a half dozen. I think this is about the 5th or 6th I've seen this year not including the 2 I've sold.
And your right about Jerin, he is now a fully blown watch addict ! Congratulations Jerin.

Just because you haven't seen them does not make them rare or "rarer" . As I have said, I've seen at least a half dozen since the new year and a fair few before that. Production quantities make a watch rare, how many were made? We don't know, I'd agree that many more Senator models were made and for many more years, so they are common. Let's not forget, Bulova started producing lower cost watches for the masses, not just the elite and they produced them in massive quanties and didn't seem to keep production records like Hamilton did. ie: The Hamilton "Medwick" had only 6621 ever made.
Try finding one.............that's RARE.
