1929 Bulova Templar — Maybe? 10AN Movement - Big Pictures

Submitted by EverydayCats on September 15, 2011 - 8:34pm

***UPDATED***

It appears to be a 1929 Templar. Matches perfectly.

I think this is a 1927 Mercury, but need to verify. The hinged back with the glass inclosed movement is cool. The writing in the case back states Pat Pending 1927, 14K Gold Filled. I like it! Caution, big pictures:

The crescent moon on the movement dates that to 1928 so the watch would be 1928 or 1929.

Look at the ads for a 1928 Treasurer model.  That looks to be a match for yours.

That's a beauty!

Looks original.

Ok, it looks like a 1929 Templar with 10AN and 14K Gold Filled. The case engraving and hands are an exact match, and the Treasurer all had—as far as I can find—had 10K Gold and 8AN movements.

Anyone else agree?

Thanks,

AL

I would disagree with the 'TEMPLAR' ID.

The Dial and Case differ.

The numerals on Your Watch are set much wider at 3 and 9 than the Dial in the ad indicating a wider Case. Plus, paying close attention to the engraving the leaves are pointing in an opposite direction.

Case is not wide enough to be the 'TREASURER' IMO.

Sock drawer syndrome! Looks like a 1928 Templar to me!

the numeral layot of the Dials are totally different as is the engraving pattern.

I'm still not conviced 100% that this is a Templar. The Templar to me is a narrower watch as we have previously discussed.

I agree, 'TEMPLAR' looks a lot narrower.

The Watch being discussed appears to have the Case width of the 'BANKER' / 'TREASURER', almost.

The post watch looks like an engraved Governor. It would be nice to oneday put this model ID to bed as this one seems to pop up all the time.

Agreed admin, the Case width is more along those lines.

Below are the exact dimensions for this watch for future reference. It is "14K Gold Filled" (not rolled or plated). It has a heavely stamped "F" in the case side at the 6 o'clock position.  Both the case number and serial number on the movement begins with an "8" which indicates a 1928 production year (imho). It has the exact engravings as the Templar. The following dimensions are in mm.

 Outside case dimensions: 26.7 X 29.3

Distance from lug tip to lug tip: 36.2

Dial dimensions: T/B 17.6 M 21.8 L 24.7

Thickness: 7.6

Your case measurements match both of my Templar watches. If you use the Templar ad, the subject watch would look more like a Templar.

Fifth says "the numeral layot of the Dials are totally different as is the engraving pattern.

No sh_ _!!!! Where did the following ad come from? I don't recognize it! Is it new?

The watch pictured in the ad happens to be a Bulova Mercury.

We had better get on the right page or Bulova history is going to suffer.

I have the above Mercury in the database & it has not received authentication.

Because Your Watch is the 'TEMPLAR' Wayne and not the 'MERCURY'

duh.

In the database all Templars are noted as 14K Rolled Gold Plate, I rechecked mine and it says 14K Gold Filled. I've not seen that noted before. If anyone has a Templar, would you please check the wording on the case. Also, as I mentioned above mine has the "F" heavily stamped into the case side at the 6 o;clock position.

Cats, Gold Fil is just as good as RGP. I fixed the on in the db to gold fil. Good eye!

My Templar with the 1924 Patent is 14k Gold Fil

My Templar with the 1927 Patent is 14K RGP

The Templar is a rare watch, be happy with what you have.

Just a Sock Drawer Syndrome test!

This IS NOT a 'TEMPLAR' it is too Wide as mentioned.

The Watch above matches the subject Watch.

The Watch below IS the 'TEMPLAR'

It matches the vintage ad 100%.

'TEMPLAR' Wayne.

The subject is an 'UNKNOWN' for now.

We can figure this all out if We work together, objectively.

Guys, y'all (I'm from Texas) are the experts, so, I have concluded that my watch is 'not' a Templar? Is that the correct conclusion? At this point I have an 'Unknown' Bulova Ca. 1928.

Here's the bottom line...This watch is about to go to ----- to look for a new home and I want the new owner to know what they are getting and at this point there is no clear consensus. I bought a huge lot of vintage stuff and want to recoup the initial investment, so, that is what prompts my questions. I think I can find a new home for a couple of these old guys 'as is' and that should do it.

If we can maybe have a group hug or pow-wow that would be great otherwise it will be described as 'unknown,' but kind of like a Templar...

Thanks!

I can't find it in the database.
