Yes... I've seen it in both white and yellow gold.  Nice looking watch!  Sweet grab... I was actually watching that one as well.

Don't know the names and have never seen an ad for it but looks to be totally legit.

Certainly looking forward to seeing more photos of the case.

It is one variation of the Douglas or Brigadere or Ambassador. Just which one is the question. I've seen several and even sold a few, but I've only seen these engraved ones in yellow gold filled.

21 Jewels would be an 'EXCELLENCY'.

Ads showing the non engraved bezel in the database

If I recall all the Douglas' are 21 Jewels so that doesn't compute.

'AMBASSADOR' - my bad, ad dated 1948.

I could have sworn I saw this case as an 'EXCELLENCY' also.

'DOUGLAS' is also advertised as 17 Jewels.

1947

Ah.. well there you go.  I've had about 5 of them and all were 21 Jewel.... and the ads I had recalled all were 21.  Good spot.

As you can see, All mine have 21 Jewels and 3 are 1947"s.

...but none of them have the engraving. I'm not sure the watch Ellierose posted is either an Ambassador or a Douglas, I think it's still unkown as is........

Based on the 21 J 8 AE, I lean toward the Ambassador.

If We were to scrutinize the ads, which is a whole other subject, it appears that around 1948 the 21 Jewel 'DOUGLAS' drops 4 Jewels and the 21 Jewel version becomes the 'AMBASSADOR'.

?

It's in situations like this that advertisement Dates are critical for identification.

I finally recieved this watch in the mail yesterday..I Believe that this watch is indeed a Douglas The movement that it came with is a 17Jeweled 8AC  and the back of the case says A9 which i am not sure if its the original...the code on the back of the case is 2569994...if it was a 21 maybe then it would be called an ambassador...i will post more picks and add it to the database after it is cleaned  and repaired....thanks again for all the discussion on this watch..The dial isn't as nice as it was in the picture(which the seller seemed to let out that info in the AD) but this is an interesting piece..Also if anyone had a dial in good or great condition i would be interesting in buying one..i have the money on hand...please message me if anyone has one a hand, thank you...
