1931 Bulova / Any idea on the model please?

Submitted by GregP50 on January 10, 2012 - 5:57pm

I I have a 1931 17 Jewels Bulova watch but cannot find any model info on this.  Does anyone have any idea what this may be? I found this in my deceased fathers belongings. Any value ideas would help also.

Thanks Greg

Skyscraper?  There's a 1932 model in the database.

Greg, add this watch to the data base under the dropdown menu for "add a watch" and fill in all the info including all markings on the caseback , inside and outside, and any other info you can locate. It appears that the movement is indeed a 1931.

Since there is only one in the data base, and it belongs to our founder and site admin.
I'd say Hell yes ;-)

Nice one, Greg.  Please do add it to the database.

Looks like a Skyscraper like Lisa said, check the 31, 32, 33 ads in the data base.

There is no data to back up the Model name 'SKY SCRAPER' - just thought I'd toss that one out there.

Great Watch!

True.  I've been looking for an ad and haven't found one yet.

Whether it's truly called the Skyscraper or not, it's a rare find.

I'll let admin deal with that, unless you'd like to tell him? I'm not going anywhere near it :-(

'Skyscraper' is a term widely used by Sellers at Our favorite auction site to describe the Case design, I noticed the Watch in the database belonged to one of those Sellers, wether or not it is an actual Model name is anyones guess. I haven't seen one named in print, yet.

The listing in the database is just a single picture--probably taken from an eBay listing--which is credited to a well known eBay seller.  Doesn't look like Stephen actually ever had the watch himself.

Correct, not my watch. This watch goes way back and the ID was probably done back then. I cannot remember if it had any advert edvidence to back up the name, but I do remember being certain the name was correct at time of entry.

An ad would be nice to confirm or not.

I bought a few similar from Mike back in 2007.  He and I babbled back and forth via email about the "skyscraper" term.  I don't remember if we bored/bothered admin with this diatribe.... I also don't remember if he had an ad or not.  I think I added a "skyscraper" to database in 2007 and later deleted it as being "vague and useless info".  I'll contact Mike and see about ads.

Should I remove the "Skyscraper" description?

Greg, I would recommend leaving it the way it is for now and let us talk over the issue with Admin.  We need to know more about the origin of the prior Skyscraper ID.

Super, sounds good. Thanks again!

Ummm. . . other than that the Sky King has a different case with different engraving?  Other than that, I think it is a brilliant comparison.   LOL

The Watch should be listed as 'UNKNOWN' IMO - We now have 2 'SKYSCRAPER's' in the database with no evidence to support the ID.

The "Sky King" has engravings ALL the way around it...also does not have (so called) "Steps" on the sides.........
