1940 Bulova

Submitted by el tel on January 15, 2012 - 12:54pm

Just purchased the attached , it has a 10AX movement 21 jewels. Omega symbol for 1940 , inside case apparently marked Bulova . Cannot find this on data base, note crown is military style.

Nice watch, el tel.  Can you tell us what you mean by "inside case apparently marked Bulova"?   When you have the watch, please shoot pics of the inside case and a closer shot of the outside of the case.  Would like to better see that symbol on the back.

Do you know what movement it has?

I have not received the watch yet and I am relying on the sellers info. The watch back looks a little unusual to me and apparently the circle you can see has 1d marked inside it. As stated above the movement is a 10AK , 21 jewels and dated 1940.

That was my thoughts , although if it is marked Bulova inside it would make it more interesting. Did not pay much for it and realized it may not be a ' proper ' case when I bought it . Will have more info when it arrives in about 5 days time. Intriged by the military style crown as it looks more like a dress watch to me.

I think you will see upon delivery the case won't be signed inside. I've seen far too many after market re-cased Bullies. If it is signed, I think it will be a first on the site. Regardless, it's still a great looking watch worthy of  posting for further scutiny.

Hoping that the case is signed Bulova as stated by the seller , but I am still having difficulty in finding a similar dial to the one above in the Bulova database.

I think i have seen that dial and movement cased in an art deco ladies Bulova before now. A white gold filled tonneau style case.

Received the watch and as expected it does not have Bulova markings on the case. It appears to be a gold plated military case and can anyone explain please how to remove the movement from the case.  The watch face has no markings to indicate that it had previously been in a smaller case and I would still like to find out the original case for this model.

I would add that despite it being an after market case it is an attractive looking watch and the dial is in excellent condition.

Terry,

You will need to remove the winding stem from the movement to get the movement out of the case, that involves loosening the setting screw (smallest screw on the left side of the stem) and pulling the stem out. You will need a very small sharp screwdriver for this.
