What is it?

Hi, folks -

Anyone have any idea about the model of this watch?  I made a cursory look through the database, but, in all honesty, I'm not sure exactly how to go about searching for a similar model.  I tried by date, but saw nothing similar.  Any help will gratefully appreciated.  Thanks.

Click on the Information tab at the top of the page and click on Bulova Ads. Start with 1973 and expand your search from there.

Will do.  First, I do have a stupid question.  How far afield date-wise should I proceed before being reasonably sure I'll find no matches?  Or, to rephrase, do Bulova models stretch over dozens of years or simply come and go every few years?  Sorry to be so dense, but I'm a newbie and still learning!

Good question.  Diff answer based on knowledge and familiarity w/ styles, the ads onsite etc...  ...but that's probably not the answer your looking for.  There are several well-versed collectors here who can glance at the watch and know what years to bracket.  What I would do, however, is use what is known to me now.  We have date code for mvnt and case.   Maybe start a year or two before that, and just browse.  I often look a couple years after the last known date too.  We know mvnt caliber.  If a mvnt date symbol was not available, we may be able to determine the "first year" the movment caliber was produced from the movement database.  With this daterange for production of movement caliber, we have a good bracket if there's not other info available.  ...and if the movement production date range is not within two years to the case, then we know even more.  It's a fun process for me.  Using these simple tools, I can find out a lot without having to be well versed on styles/periods etc...
