Weird Berkshire?

Strange Ebay acquisition. I had never heard of Elco 'til this came up, did a bit of research and find they made quality watches and movements. When it comes I will Investigate further, until then can anyone  offer any help?

Most likely a movement/dial swap if it's a Bulova case.

Without more details, pictures etc., I'd say it's a copy of Bulova's Berkshire.

Its a knock-off Bulova...Looks like the Chinese were in business in the 50's as well : )

at least they weren't claiming to be anything else.... A Mr "Andy" and Mrs "Robyn".  Funny.  In some ways I can see knock-offs and replicas as a complement, but if they wrongly called them Bulova, then that's a problem.  Some of the older Lica camera replicas have more collectable value than the original models these days.  Good research Greg!

I'd rather get paid for the use of my designs than get paid a compliment.

It shouldn't come as a surprise that replicas were being made back then, but it does! Just goes to show the high esteem Bulova was given. Great pics Ticker. Anyone else know of other "rip-offs"?

hey Bobbee, It's not a ripoff, it's a knockoff, a copy, and it's clearly marked Elco. If you bought it thinking "Bulova Berkshire" then you have no-one to blame but yourself for making such an assumption. Give yourself time and you'll learn to look 1st, digest the info and pics 2nd, research 3rd, and then decide to bid.....or not.

We all have made mistakes like this, that's how we learn and become more experienced. I know I have. I have a sock drawer full of this kind of stuff and I refuse to re-sell it. Gave a box full to a Salvation Army charity auction a while back.

No need for you to get bent over it, learn from it and move on.

hey bourg01, not getting bent over it, just a bad choice of words, I meant a copy or replica. I'm not unhappy in any way with my purchase so far. I also think imitation is the highest form of flattery and this watch looks like a very attractive vintage copy of a very beautifully designed piece of art in my view, and I was merely making an opening for a discussion. I suppose it may not be "purist" enough for some, but I love watches for themselves, not just as a brand.

That's cool, as long as your happy with it, that's all that matters. I'm alot like you with my collection, I buy what like whether it's Bulova,Hamilton,Elgin, Gruen or others as well. I'd bet most of the members here are same. Bulova just seems to have released so many appealling models compared to the others. Gotta love this hobby! BTW, it is a pretty fine looking watch.
