Here is a seldom seen one presented on the original Maxim mesh band in what appears to be the original box as received. There are currently 2 others in the database, as well as one on Lisa's site. All 4 currently known examples bear a 1929 case serial number.
There are currently 3 variations of this case (different bezel top engraving) with the same deco geometric side decoration listed as Unknowns,
this one, this one, this one, this one.
All of these are also dated 1929. What does this mean? I don't know. Perhaps this hidden lug style was a flop due to the Depression, or the style wasn't appreciated by the buying public.
1929 Bourbon
It's very interesting to see all 4 variants. The common aspect is the 3 steps. If you take away any engraving they basically become the same watch. Were Bulova testing the waters with various designs?
Thankfully we at least know the model name od one of the designs.
This version we can at least ID.
1929 Bulova Bourbon
I've just also noticed that the 2nd and 3rd steps have a different design. I had always just thought they were all the fish design.
