Watch Description

As far as I know, this was my grandfather's Bulova. This watch was in my father's posessions.

I intend to have this watch restored.

I liked the 'GOVERNOR' ID and be careful with the Dial, if it is original the numerals are painted with Radium, which is toxic (radioactive).

Oh great, I used spit on a q-tip to clean them.

Are you sure about that horizontal measurement on the crystal dimension?  In proportion to the length, it does not look that wide.

I have several Bankers, and the crystal measures 23.5 x 23.5.  Your watch appears to be longer and narrower than a Banker, and I would guess that your crystal dimensions are approx. 24.6mm x 19.7mm.

Where did you get the information that your crystal dimensions are the same as the 1928 Banker?

I'm sure my measurements are within a fraction of a mm. 24.5 top to bottom and 22.5 side to side at apex of radius. I got the numbers "22.84mm X 22.51" for the 1928 Banker from Kurt on the auction side where I purchased the 24.5mm x 19.5mm crystal for a Governor.

Ooops, now I see a huge difference. ugh... I'll just be quiet for a while.

There is another watch that looks a great deal like the Governor but does not have the same crystal dimensions.  I have a 1931 yellow gold version of it, and I have several Governors as well.  The crystal opening on the 1931 "unknown" is 3mm narrower than the Governor.

EDIT:  Duh. . . now that I look at my Governors, I see that your crystal dimensions are a match for that model. What made you think yours wasn't a Governor?

I'll put this back as a Governor and wait until there is a consensus. It's you all that ID'd it for me to start with... I think I've been licking too much radium.

Okay, well, here's the way I see it.  The approximate crystal dimensions are as follows:

Banker - 23.5mm x 23.5mm

Governor - 24.6mm x 22.4mm

Unknown Governor look-alike (or real Governor?) - 24.6mm x 19.7mm

Yes! That makes sense to me. The dimension I got was just under 22.5mm (22.4mm with a plastic caliper)

Thank you for the clarification. (I bought a crystal listed for the '29 Gov.) That is what caused the confusion.

I'm finding several crystals roughly 24.5x22.5 for bulova, unfortunately none provide a model. Yet.

We are getting close.  Two ticks as tentative for governor while we get closer!
