Just got it and I've no idea what year it was made in as there are no date codes or serial number on the movement. Split bi metalic balance, breguet hairspring, celluloid crystal. Thanks admin for filling in the info. I'll post a few shots after it's restored.

It's not the 'SKY KING'

There is no evidence to support the 'SKY KING's ID in the IHC post other than a Box admin.

If you looked at all of the links in the IHC185 posts, except the erroneous ad as pictured above. All of the pictures of the watches shown or linked have the XXIXXI engraving pattern. None of the Sky King watches in any of the links on the IHC185 posts have any markings outside of the gold engraving, such as the three squares centered on the top & bottom bezel shown in the ad watch above. This Sky King pic is from the IHC185 thread. It is a magnificent Sky King example and almost as nice as Geoff Baker's Sky King in the database.

I recommend that you change the date in the title from "1929" to 1930. Bulova did not introduce this beauty until 1930 according to the ads.

Notice that the hour hand is not the correct shape for the Sky King. The minute hand is correct, so look for an hour hand to match your minute hand.

1930 Bulova 'SKY KING'

The subject Watch is similar, but different.

In reading the IHC thread referenced above it clearly shows the owner starts the thread with an empty box and adds a Watch He beleives to be the 'SKY KING' at a later Date.

The Watch never came in the box.

While we have watch records ID'ed as Sky King w/ XXIXXI  do we have any ads showing this pattern for sky king?  I'm looking now....

No, none.

ALL ads for the 'SKY KING' show the 'Fish' pattern with Chevron details at either end of the Bezel.

I've read the IHS post (again) and all links/pictures, and I agree w/ Fifth's take on that post.  On subject watch, we don't have a movement date, we don't have the case serial number, and it's listed as 1929- a year before we think the Sky King was released based on ads.  NOVA has pointed out case dimensions and crystal details between the two tentative Sky Kings are the same, and makes good points which apply to subject watch and other Sky King in database.  So this watch could be an earlier Sky King for which we don't have an ad....maybe

So it is now tentative two star sky king....when one star unconfirmed may be more appropriate....or one could also argue that it's as yet, and unknown with many similarities to the known Sky King...
