Jay (Vintagebulova.com) has a 1931 example here, with raised gold numerals, but there's some ads in this thread which appear to show a variation dial like subject watch.

In the US, gold was and still is required by law to be marked. I forget the original date of the law, but it was in place early on. Now, I have seen masterful re-creations of cases by case-makers, and in some of these instances the cases are unmarked, but these are few and far between, and would not be exactly like the original. Bulova cases that are unmarked are unlikely to be solid gold.
