Gold case, S/N 189489 on case, not sure of year.  I don't know how to remove the movement although case back is hinged.  My grandfather's watch.  Appreciate any help in identifying the year and model.

10/8/2011 - Changed year to 1935 based on closer examination of the case mark and movement mark.

If you look at the oposite end if the hinge on the back, you will see a small tab. Using a dull pen knife you can carefully slip the knife edge under that tab and 'pop' the back open. CAREFULLY !!!! dont slice yourself or scratch the back. It shouldnt take but a little twist to open it.

I'm going to estimate mid-30's as the Bulova stamp on the back of the watch.. The inside case probably won't be stamped though.

I'm convinced these cases stamped that way are NOT reproductions.

Was able to open the case and view the movement (thanks shooter144!).  It is 6AF, 21 jewels, with a little triangle symbol (upper right of photo which I just added).  Also says USA.  Symbol on the case is a shield.  Still not sure how to determine actual date and model.  Was somewhat exciting to remove the case and see the movement at work!

You always remember your first Nick.  I did the same with my grandpa's watch... with advice from her.  I was a bit spooked opening it thinking I was going to lose pieces flying around the room! Haha..  quite exciting indeed!

Your probably hooked now man.. welcome to the founding chapater of  Bulovaholics Anonymous.

Triangle on the Movement = 1935, early for this Case and 1945 seems too late.

Watch could be 1936+ and the 6AF has been seen in the 'PRESIDENT', 'TREASURER' and 'PHANTOM'.

Sweet! The triangle dates it to 1935. Enjoy pondering over the ads.

The Dial is very 'TIME KING', 'BROADCASTER' like minus the sub - Dial.

Is 1935 the earliest 6AF We've seen ??

....are We Watch geeks or what, haha!

Case dimensions would be superb.
