Ah the ol' Wrong Way Corrigan. I love this watch.
I'd say your spot on, though due to the case serial I think your at a 1939 production date. The case serial number beginning #9 indicates the last number of the decade in Bulova's this early. So... '38 movement married in a '39 case. This was very common and well within our exceptable range of an original watch.

Doug Corrigan was a low budget Flyer and everyone in the day found it amazing his (900.00) plane would even fly let alone make the "Wrong Way" Trans Atlantic" Crossing. His story was reported as a guy without major sponsorship and a sort of a junkyard dog that became a hero to the everyman.
I think and this is total speculative is that Bulova Execs and Engineers decided to design a Low Cost highly Unusual Model named after "Wrong Way Corrigan". There is no other Bulova Designed Stepped Case like the Corrigan. The double bezel and Lug Extended Strap is like finding old parts in a junk yard and coming up with a beautiful Timepiece for the cost $29.75 that every man could afford!
I can't back any of this theory up.. but as a aspiring Watchmaker and working on Corrigan's maybe I can make the case that this Model is made up of Bulova's old Spare Parts.
Its a thought anyway.. JEV1A - "Time & Again" NAWCC Business Member
In reply to 39 Doug Corrigan, nice work by Andersok
Thanks so much.. I was challenged with that 2 piece Bezel and to replace the Crystal. Luckily I found a Flexo Doug Corrigan clear crystal to replace. I just finished so the Movement is still being timed but so far running about half a minute or so in either direction in a 24 hours period.
Of course I wish I had the Extended Lugs with a Tan Strap as was original to the watch. I thought about making extenders per current Doug Corrigan discussion but I really don't have the tools to accomplish that.
Overall a very interesting watch indeed. JEV1A
