This watch brings up an interesting question.  Engraving says “From Fran to Flo”.  Clearly both woman’s names.  We’re these watches unisex in those days?

Wristwatches in general had a history of being considered effeminate on men, but by the end of the second world war,  they were pretty much established as being properly worn by both genders.

However, my Great Grandfather, Florian Hinger, was known as 'Flo', although I have never seen an engraving on his effects that used this nickname.

...and in my days I've known two men, Francisco and Francis who were known in their family circle as "Fran".

PS - I also dated a woman when I was in college whose legal name was Freddie.
