Watch Description

I've had very little luck identifying this watch using the ads.  The case looks to me like the 1948 Director (and it's 14K too), but the dial doesn't match.  I originally had it pegged for a 1948 His Excellency 'UU', but this watch has only two scallops on the case, not three.  I unfortunately don't have any pictures of the movement (I selected 21 jewel movement because the field wasn't happy being blank). Thanks for your help!

'HIS EXCELLENCY' being one of those 'others' presumably, Dial and Movement say so.

21J 7AK should be inside.

edit: I slept on this one last night and have to add a comment.

NOVA,

If You did not posess a copy of this Watch in this exact configuration I believe You would be calling the Owner of the Watch to the carpet, as seen on many occasions in these threads, as it does not match an ad for the 'DIRECTOR' - there is no supporting evidence for a postive 'DIRECTOR' ID.

But, You do own a Watch shown in this configuration and choose to Name it a 'DIRECTOR' without any evidence to support which IMO displays a double standard in Model identification on Your part.

No worries, JP.  I think I was very upfront about the lack of movement information.

The watch is off getting serviced, so I will snap a movement photo when I get it back.

Fifth, as usual, you are completely wrong.

I used to have my Director posted on this site as a Director and no one took issue with that.

It is now posted on my site as a Director with a note pointing out the fact that the dial does not match the ad because it does not have the diamonds.  Thus, I am careful to alert anyone looking at that watch to the fact that the ID is not fully supported by the one ad that we have.

To say that there is no evidence to support the Director ID is ridiculous.  Again, I see that you stay true to form in your bizarrely weak analysis and conclusions.

The ad shows the same case, and that case is not seen in another ad.  The ad specifies solid gold, which is not that often seen in the ads.  The crystal is correct for the Director, per the crystal catalogs.  That's more evidence than many of your watch IDs have ever had.

Moreover, we often accept dial variations within a given model ID.  I have always accepted dial variations readily and often, both on this site and in regard to my own collection.  We accept them as tentative, noting the difference between the watch and the ad.  I never asserted that anything different should happen here.

I don't know if you woke up on the wrong side of the bed, or what, but I suggest you go back to bed and dream of waking up with more sense.  Who knows, maybe a miracle will happen.

Ahhh I love the smell of fresh infighting in the morning. KIDS I never meant to create another battle ground for sniping at each other again. I think we should all go back to bed and dream of finding a hugh cashe of every ad ever printed on every Bulova ever created. Now that's a dream worth going back to bed for.

Can any one contact jazzydrum to see if they ever popped open the watch? It would be nice to see what we find at the root of all of this comotion. For now I will place a 1948 series 21 jewel 7AK in the case and get it ready to post.

Good to see we are still ready to chew on each others leg over something that should only warrant a small nip at the heels.

JP, I imagine that if someone publicly accused you of hypocrisy, you would also feel the need to defend your actions and character and would not be prepared to dismiss the unwarranted and false attack as lightly as you suggest.  Rest assured that the issue had nothing to do with you.

I'm sure that you can send Jazzydrum a PM if you wish.

Nova

It is so good to hear from you again. I hope all is well with you and yours.

In my 70 years of living I have endured verbal assualts of every imaginable kind and from every source you can think of. If I have learned anything from it, that would be to consider the source and the reason then the outcome. While Mark can be a bit of an instigator and a stinker on certain things, he is really quite a nice fellow. He, like all of the folks I have come in contact with here at mybulova, is just about as knowledgeable as they come and while his style is a bit offensive at times I don't think he is trying to publicly shame or dishonor any one. Some times I think he just does the things he does and says the things he says to elicit reactions for amusement. Not exactly the nicest thing to do but I just let it roll off and move forward. What some of us, me included at times, percieve as a too large dose of "I'm the all knowing" is just his style and let's face it he is pretty darn good in the Bulova knowledge department. When I first joined this organization the comment was made by Mark himself that you should change you name because you had graduated from the novice ranks in his opinion and after a while I had to agree with his assertion. You have grown into a very knowledgeable person and much of that can be atttributed to your participation in the many discussions that have taken place here. You have become a mentor to me and I have learned much from you as you have from Mark and all of the other esteemed participents of the discussions. I can only hope you will try to take what you percieve as assualts to your integrity with a grain of salt and learn from them that you are wiser and more patient than the person who is getting to you.

Just roll with the punches and bob and weave a bit and ty to have some fun with it. Well I guess I have had my say, as long winded as it is, and will settle back and watch the world spin around.

JP, I hear what you are saying and I will try to take the insults less seriously for all our sakes.  You are correct that the best approach is to simply consider the source and move on.

Now your talking... I hope no one is offended by my statements as they are not meant to offend but to enlighten. Just an old man blathering on about the things we learn in lifes many trials. Remember it is not the destination but the journey that makes life so interesting.
