10K Rolled Gold Plate Yellow metal case, SS Back. Nice chasing top and bottom. Has Bulova marked crown. Case serial may imply a 1949 vintage, but I am unsure if true at this time in the 40's with Bulova's numbering. Movement is real nice and sports a square (1946) mark. Dial is especially clean and nice!! This watch has been serviced and runs great!!!! Appears to be a Bulova Minute Man as shown here: https://www.mybulova.com/watches/1949-minute-man-697 but with an upgrade movement. So appears someone either at purchase or a later date decided they wanted the nicer movement than the 17 jewel typically offered for this model.

An excellent question. Both movements are dated 1946. 1946 was a date code transition year. A small square stamp or the number 46 are both correct. Go to the home page under "Dating Bulovas" and click on "Date Codes". There is a matrix there of all dating stamps used by Bulova. This particular watch was updated from 1946 to 1949 based on case serial number.
