Watch Description

Hello, my 95 year old aunt recently passed away and I found the watch in her estate. I looked through all the years from the 40's to the 60's and I couldn't find a similar watch. The back says Bulova, 14 k gold

the case number is J097465 the 5 is almost worn off so it indicates that it was worn a lot.
I don't know the year but I had to guess as the case number started with a J

any information would be much appreciated as I would like to give this to one of my nieces.

Hi Any help in identifying the year of this watch would be great. I also don't know if the band is the original? It seems to be attached by steel links. I looked through all the years and couldn't find one that looked like it. I also looked at all the J names to see if anyone looked the same no luck. Any information would be welcome.

thank you cal granny

Hi Calgranny and welcome to myBulova!  Thank you for sharing your Great Aunt's lovely watch with us.  What a wonderful heirloom this will be for one of your nieces.

I believe you are right on the date without a two digit date code that started being used in the 50's.  If you happen to get a photo of the movement that would help us confirm the date.

I have not seen this model before and have not been able to find an ad match yet but I will keep looking.  It will be Unknown for me at the moment.

Thank you Kathy, any information would be great. I don't know how to open up the back so maybe I should take it to a watch repair shop. It works perfectly after all these years. I don't want to mess it up. Thank you again.

Okay I was able to take a closer look at the watch band and it had a name on the latch. It said

Kreisler USA top 1/20 10 K gold filled, bottom stainless.

so now I'm even more confused! Thank you for any info.

Hi Calgranny, I don't think the band on your watch is original to the watch. Kreisler was a major manufacturer of watch bands and bracelets so it could be aftermarket or it just plan came off a different watch.

I don't see any match to this little gem in out advert data base either, I'm afraid I too will have to tag it as Unknown. it would be nice to know the date code on the movement to nail down the year.

Thank you for your comment, any information would be great. Hopefully I'll be able to have it opened so I can see what it says inside. I find all these watches so interesting. Can't wait to post what it says.

I've come back to this one a few times and can't find a match either. Heirloom watches are the best, thanks for sharing it. I have to agree that the band is a high quality replacement. That's quite common on old watches, the bands wear out and get replaced.

I'm also at Unknown for now.

Thank you for helping. I keep wondering if it was my aunts or maybe my grandmothers. Especially because the band is a replacement. Can't wait to see what it says inside.
