I have this model Bulova academy award wristwatch for 61 years. It was a graduation gift to me in 1950, my parents paid around $70. A lot of money back then, but after 61 years and a couple of cleanings it still runs. A nice wristwatch!

Is it really only 7 jewels. 21 jewels is more likely!

i agree with Fifth Ave...it is rare that you see somebody with known history on the watch...Its almost imposible to find out or know the history..Unless is on some highly documented service report on a  Rolex or something.....i wonder with the ss numbers,is it possible to find out where the watches were sold?Or atleast where they came from...atleast on some if the watchmaker left an ecthing on the inside case you know when it was cleaned...

The Bulova watch was purchased from Philip Leviathan & Son (not sure of the spelling) on the Bowery in NYC in 1950.

Presumably, this watch was labeled the "W" variant of the Academy Award based on the crystal specifications.  G-S Catalog No. 52 lists the Academy Award "W" as taking the X775 (21.5mm x 17.5mm).  I have this model of AA and can confirm that those crystal specifications are correct for the watch.  No other AA variant is listed in the catalog as using that crystal.
