Another Kirkwood variant? Looks like there's a fun debate about this one.....Or is this dial refinished?
This is a curious one indeed. My first inclination was it was a 3rd party dial. or perhaps jeweler enhanced, but I couldn't find a match to the marker style (beads vs. flat seen in similar dials). After more searching, I found what appears to be the same dial with white instead of red stones in a 1949 ad ID'ed first as Lord Springfield and then Beau Brummell in solid gold.
Case is Kirkwood style. I wonder if someone scrapped a solid case and transplanted this dial into a Kirkwood? Hard to say if this is a combination watch or an unknown variant or unknown model. I do think it's all Bulova. My initial determination would be to classify it as Kirkwood, noting the mysterious dial; however, with a case date "A9" it pre-dates the oldest example in the database by a year, and is 2 years earlier than the single ad we have.
Based on dates, it could be a pre-Kirkwood unknown and correct as presented......or not. It's not out of the question that Bulova could have used the same dial with different colored stones in a solid gold and plated one.
Just my 2 cents worth.
