Shawn,

The first one was ID'd as a Westover with only a hang tag, and the second was ID'd as a Cromwell with only a hang tag. The Crystal specs seem to support both, but I have not seen any ad's to verify them.

Maybe I missed something in the ad database, but shouldn't both should be 2 star watches for now?

Just picking up on this thread because I dont believe the crystal for this bulova is in fact a cmx 324-2. The stated crystal has rounded corners, the case is squared corners. the crystal does not fit into the corners because of this. Just an observation

We have to be carefull when looking at included crystals, as per the age of theses watches they have likely been changed several times, and not neccesarily with the original style. Crystal specs are very usefull but I dont think we can put too much faith into the crystal that is on most of these as being correct when trying to make a positive ID, especially when several styles of crystal will in fact fit the case.

These are all fantastic watches, I wish we had more data to ID them. Has anyone had time to check into the Library of Congress and see if perhaps they have full copies of some of the period printings of say Harpers or such? It has been a long time since I have tried to research stuff there, but If I recall correctly, they have almost everything printed in this century (periodicals) but its a PITA to find them.

I agree. I was just pointing this out because if someone goes and orders a crystal for this based on the information in this thread they will be a little miffed off when it arrives with rounded corners and does not in fact fit the westover properly.....

Your right Gary,

Seems that Bulova made quite a few watches with very close crystal sizes, The GS CMX324-2 does have very slight rounded corners, but the CXM324-2B and others are square but 1mm larger on the narrow measurement, the problem is that the rest are only curved on one dimension and if I remember right the Westover is curved on both.

Gents, help scrap together another money for an airline ticket from Australia and I will gladly spend hours/days/weeks camped out at the Library of Congress in search of any vintage Bulova information.... they allow sleeping bags in there right?

I am very envious that you have these potential resources at your doorstep.....well you know what I mean.

We are still yet to see definitive (3 star) proof of an ID but I am sure with time this one will also be named....its case is so unique. Although it must have had a very limited run as we just don't see to many of them and at this stage no ads.

I'm comfortable w/ two stars, but will check ads again and become more familiar w/ threads/watch records.  doubt much has changed on the ad front.  We have three of these in "known" watch records, w/ varying star counts, which is inconsistent, but in light of the discussion, understandable.
