My Dad recently died and left a drawer full of watches.  One is of interest.
On the back is marked...
10K ROLLED GOLD PLATE
BULOVA
L3

I understand L3 means 1953.

and at the bottom are the numbers...
7137011

I have looked carefully at the 1953 watch images on this site ( Bulova were busy watch makers! ) and i cannot find it, though the Hadley has a somewhat similiar face.

I do not know how to open a watch to see any internal markings.

Any suggestions on the model or value?

It keeps time, including the small second hand, but needs to be wound every day or two.

Hi GhostFish, welcome. I'm a big fan of inherited watches, to have a 'drawer full' would be a dream. I assume your father was a watch collector of sorts. Unfortunately we can't give an appraisal here, there are just too many factors. In terms of the model I think it's an Ambassador. Very nice looking watch.

Looks like a very close match Geoff; just slight differences in the seconds track and the number 12 looks to be the number instead of the two arrows on subj watch. I can go with Ambassador.

Nothing like the OP's watch. The lugs are like "commas" in the subject, and the dial is totally different too.

The one in the ad Geoff posted is actually the Ambassador "B".

Thanks Fellas.

Not quite the Ambassador but close.  I am considering going back to the watch repairman and have him open it for details / markings.  He pointed it out as a nice watch on my first visit and suggested a value of about $300. US.  I will update this once i do.

I went to 3 business's with a bag full of watches.  The one prize was a Rolex.  My Dad was not a "collector" but a "retainer", never throwing anything away.

:)

Geoff's advert is the best we have at the moment, so I'm also good with a tentative Ambassador, unknown variant.

I would also say it's from the Ambassador line, variant unknown.

As said, the lugs are totally unlike the Ambassadors in Geoff's ad. They are shaped like horns the subject's like commas.

The dial is nothing like the subject either.

Unknown.

Here is a closer, clearer look at those Ambassador lugs. Help any?
