Good catch admin, the Dial does also differ from the 'G'.
There were 12 models, or variations of the '23' ("A" thru "L") according to the original 1954 ad and Lord knows how many additional variations in the later Years.
When naming a variant the Watch should match the ad 100% in all aspects if We are to get it right.
In reply to Good catch admin, the Dial by FifthAvenueRes…
This was a test Mark...
I was hoping some of the new members would comment...It was one of those that I mentioned in my panel P.M. to you.
Admin caught it right away...you were focused on the band not matching 100%...If you use that to judge a star rating on a watch, we are in big trouble with the known watches in the database...because very very few are NOS, and even the ad's we have will conflict one and other with band styles.
After the Frankenbully poll is decided, we had better get a discussion going so something set in stone on how we issue our ratings so we are all on the same page. The case serial number/movement date code is another issue that needs to be resolved.
G has no numerals and C and subject watch are a match on dial and numbers. The C and subject watch are a match on lugs also. IMO this is a C model with incorrect band. If it is to be published as a C it will have to have a lovely alligator band and not the expansion band. There are many bands that conform to the originals that are just close enough to past the test of original to the untrained eye as are there many expansion bands that very closely meet the appearance of the original. I think we have been down this band road before and is a difficult one but there are records that show the watches available in expansion or leather strap with just a slight difference in price but still recognized as that particular model either way and some that only mention one type of band for the variant.
