Watch Description

Case Number: X09365

Case Marked: Bulova 10K Gold Filled L8

Movement Marked: 5AD, BULOVA, 21 JLS,5ADJ

Inside case back: BULOVA FIFTH AVENUE, NEW YORK

Additional Information:

Inside the case back there are small numbers scribed "+10-71" which is circled and a few other numbers that are too small to read. I assume that these are adjustments?

Four small diamonds are set into the watch

I have painstakingly scoured all of the ads from 1959-1970 and have not returned a similar watch. Can anybody help me please?

Thank you in advance for any and all help!

I'm going out on a limb. American Girl, period. I do not think the bracelet is required and I do not think it's Non Conforming. Don't want to rekindle the whole "bracelet/band/strap required" discussion, I just don't think a broken original bracelet sends a nice American Girl off to the N/C bin. For the record I would feel the same about a Canadian Girl, an Australian Girl and quite frankly, a British Girl as well !!

Sorry Goeff, I don't want to spark the band debate either but I have to disagree on the band on this one. All the American Girl and Canadian Girl watches had the bangle bracelet. I've reinforced that aspect by showing 7 different variants in this thread. I've had dozens of these, not one had a strech band. here's 5 more for your preview.

I'll agree that the case is from an American Girl but the band is clearly non-conforming to the original design of the watch.

So far "American Girl" from Geoff, OT, and JP is tentative.

"American Girl " Non Conforming form me.

Unknown from Will, Fifth and Admin

Looks like I'm the minority here and then we have a stalemate.

Changing my vote to American Girl w/ non-conforming in variant field....if we can do such a thing.

...actually I think JP is voting for American Girl if the owner put a (near?) original bangle bracelet on it.  Not shure of his vote as it is now.
I agree w/ Shawn-the bangle being part of the ID in American Girl series.  My vote for Unknown was in hopes of eventually finding an ad showing it as another model other than an American Girl.
If published as an American Girl, I'd give one tick for unconfirmed.

Hey Will,

I can live with that. I don't profess to be any kind of expert but I'd bet I have more experience with the American Girl bangles than any other panel member voting. I think all the models I've posted in this thread would support that. No one else has brought any evidence to the table. Why?

I'll change my vote to American Girl non-conforming....  We are getting closer on a name...
Unknown doesn't seem right, as we will never find a different name for this American Girl without bangle bracelet IMO

OK  Published as American Girl.  I'll give two ticks tentative.  The lack of bangle is discussed above.  Changing date from 1959 to 1958 based on case L8 date code.
