Watch Description

This watch was given to me by my uncle. This was my great grandfathers retirement watch. All I know is its from the 50's. I am sure the crown is not original and it has a seiko band. I apologize but I do not know how to remove the backing to give you the movement details. I have looked at hundreds of 50's era Bulova watches with no luck in matching what I have which is what led me to your great website. Any info would be very welcome. Thank you.

1959 Royal Clipper, I think.

New hour and minutes hands, should be radium.

Cool watch.

Could you take the watch to a jewlery shop and have the back taken off and take photos of the movement?

Welcome Chadillac to myBulova and congratulations on having this wonderful keepsake from your great grandfather, I think that is wonderful. Treasure it forever ( but have it serviced if you're going to wear it!). The date code on the back of your watch appears to be L9 which would make it a 1959 model, can you please verify that?

I would vote it as a 1959 Royal Clipper model.

By all means Welcome to MB. Nice Royal Clipper, your Dad took very good care of it to look so good now. As Bob mentions, have serviced  before  you wear it.

Yes you were right about the L9 stamp. Thank you all for the compliments. I wasn't planning on having it serviced but since a few of you mentioned it I will now for sure. I'll make sure to get some pics with the back removed. Thanks again for all your help. Any band ideas?

Red crocodile, or lizard.

Oh yeah! That would look good bobbee thanks. Do most jewelry stores that carry Bulova carry replacement bands?

I'd go with a darker Burgundy Crocodile. Croc lasts 4 ever and well worth the extra $$. I have a Croc band on one of my AA's and it looks as good as the day I put it on 8 years ago.

I like croc as well. I've never had a watch with a leather band. This one is definitely going to get one. Thank you.
