Not all ads give a variant Bob, does that mean the Watch shown in said ad does not have a variant letter assigned to it by Bulova?

No.

The subject Watch is a 'JET CLIPPER', wether it be variant A thru Z, AA thru ZZ or AAA thru ZZZ is insignificant.

Agreed Mark, but if we have the model variant in an ad, why not show it?
I agree with not putting the variant letter on the posted ID, as it is a lot of work for admin, but what is wrong with giving the variant info in the thread if relevant? Seems like you are against even that, the way you strenuously deny any that go against the "band makes the variant".

What You have posted above is exactly what I am suggesting and will result in more 3 star ID's and a much simpler database for search purposes.

Drop the variant designations on the initial Model entry, the variant or possible variant can be shown / debated within the comments thread.

P.S. Nowhere in Garys' new 'AA' entry have I mentioned the "YY" variant, My ID suggests the Watch is a part of the Academy Award series only, which I believe it to be.

Well that IS strange, someone else with your name must have made the post in that thread, dated 29th. October, 6.37p.m.
"Crystal specs plus the watch in the box should be enough for a tentative ID, ACADEMY AWARD 'YY'".
"Nowhere in Gary's entry" hmm?
You REALLY ought to get your facts straight before you post, it is quite a bad habit you've got!
